The Museum Island

The Museum Island - Culture at its best

Located between two well-known Berlin landmarks - the Brandenburg Gate and the television tower - the Museum Island boasts an unparalleled array of world-class museums, historic sites and monuments.
Begin your tour in the Lustgarten park in front of the Altes Museum and stroll over the Schloßplatz square, which will be home to the planned reconstruction of the city palace. Afterwards, we suggest you visit the Pergamonmuseum: take some time to gaze at the magnificent Pergamon Altar and stand before the towering Ishtar Gate. A visit to the Bodemuseum on the tip of the island ends the tour and brings you to Monbijoupark, where you can cap off a great day with a glass of wine.

Pfaueninsel (Peacock island)

Pfaueninsel (Peacock island) - A romantic excursion

Long ago, King Friedrich Wilhelm II had this tiny island at the edge of the city redesigned as a park and introduced the peacocks for which the island is named. In 1821, the island was remodelled by the landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné and the famous architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Luckily, their work remains entirely preserved today.
A day trip is a fantastic way to enjoy the unique historical charm of the island - and you can add a visit to the beach on the shore of Wannsee lake.

KaDeWe

KaDeWe - Exclusive shopping

The Kaufhaus des Westens has been one of Germany's most famous department stores since it opened in 1907. Today it boasts more than 60,000 square metres of retail space and is as popular as ever.
The store's gourmet department draws visitors into an enticing maze of over 33,000 different food, beverage and tobacco products from the entire world. And of course lovers of designer clothing, perfume and luxury accessories will be spoilt for choice.

Olympic Stadium

Olympic Stadium - Sports and entertainment

The Olympic Stadium, which was commissioned by the National Socialists for the 1936 Olympics as the biggest stadium in the world, is mostly used to day by the Berlin football club Hertha BSC. The long oval of the stadium is crowned by the marathon gate in the west, looking towards the bell tower.
In 2006, right in time for the FIFA World Cup, the stadium was expanded and modernised with a carefully constructed extension of the roof. Today it seats up to 74,400 people for sporting events, concerts, cultural events or church congresses.
